Empower Yourself

April 3rd, 2007

Hi. Deb Fortier here, so please don’t delete this (at least until after you read it)! As most of you know, my life and career coaching business is appropriately titled, Life Is What You Make It. I work with women who are at a point in their life where they want to focus on themselves. I assist these women on getting really clear on what they want in their life and to become more aware of what is possible. I support and encourage them in making changes which results in creating harmony with their personal vision and their purpose. In short, I empower women to live the life they have always dreamed of! I invite you on this journey through my new, monthly newsletter. I hope that in some small way, it empowers you to take steps toward living the life that you love. If you find it valuable, please feel free to send it to a woman in your life that you would like to see live the life they have always dreamed of. Thank you to all for your support!

EMPOWER YOURSELF

Here it is! My first “Empower Yourself” newsletter. I’ve had a difficult time deciding what kind of message that I wanted to send out to the world. I didn’t want this just to be a “newsletter.” I wanted to send out into the world something that would be rich with valuable information that would inspire women to make positive changes in their life.

Many topics came to mind but nothing that I got really excited about. Then recently, while reading a handout that I received at a presentation skills workshop, the word “empower” literally jumped off the page and hit me between the eyes! It was exactly what I wanted to encourage women to develop and to nurture. It was what I do in my one-on-one coaching sessions and in my workshops. It is the basis behind all that I believe in. Empowering women is a term that resonates very deeply within me.

Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “Everything that you are capable of achieving while dreaming, will be possible while awake.” One reason that a lot of people never get around to pursuing their dreams is a fear of failure. When this happens, one is so paralyzed by the possibility they might fail that they will do anything to avoid such a “catastrophe.”

The reverse of this is also true. Many people are so scared of success that they sabotage themselves; “Is this really what I want?” “What if I am too successful and can’t handle it?” “What will others think of me?” “I’m not worthy enough to have my dreams come true.”

I only have one thing to say to both of the above: Get over it and live your dreams!

No matter what you set out to do, sooner or later there will be a failure. It is like arguing with your spouse; nobody wants to do it, but sooner or later it is bound to happen. More often than not, failure is simply the smashing of our expectations. However, failure can be wonderful in a way because it pulls us back to the job of reinventing ourselves and dreaming further. Most failure is simply a beginning disguised as an end.

My mission is to empower you with knowledge and to motivate and support you to identify and to achieve your dreams. In time, you will master turning “failure” into “opportunity,” and not just settling in your life because you are scared or fear the unknown.

My goal is to provide you with new insights every month to move you closer to living out your dreams. You will see that by investing some time in yourself each month in order to get really clear on what you want (and don’t want), you will be empowered to create positive changes in your life.

This Month…

1. Count your blessings! Show gratitude for all the wonderful things in your life instead of dwelling on what you consider “wrong” or “missing.”
2. When speaking with others, focus on the positive! Take out all negativity and watch what happens.
3. Tell someone you love and trust about your dreams! Stop complaining to whoever will listen about all the things that you don’t have and why. Instead, spread the word about your aspirations to bring them into reality.
4. Look others in the eye with warmth, respect and a smile. Frowning and scowling at others like they have wronged you invites negativity and drags the spirit downward.

“Whatever good you have is all from God. Whatever evil, all is from yourself.” –The Koran

Empower Yourself – Try This…

Make a list of the 5 biggest failures in your life. Were they true failures or were they simply a rearrangement of your plans? What did you learn? Have you forgiven yourself?

You have been sent this newsletter because you are someone important in my life. As you will see on all of my monthly newsletters, you can cancel the subscription at anytime if you no longer wish to receive them. Simply scroll down to the bottom and click on the link and you will be cancelled immediately. However, it would mean a great deal to me if you would let me know what you thought of my initial attempt of providing you with a bit of inspiration and insight. Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Until next month, warm blessings to all,
Deb Fortier
