Do You Have the Power?

EMPOWER YOURSELF

DO YOU HAVE THE POWER?

“You can be anything you want to be, if only you believe with sufficient conviction and act in accordance with your faith; for whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.”
Napoleon Hill
Best-selling author of Think and Grow Rich

It is finally the end of a long, cold January. How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions or, as I talked about last month, your S.M.A.R.T. goals?

It is so easy to get off track, isn’t it? There are so many excuses to fall back on, such as; too tired, too cold, forgot, too busy, sick, etc. Excuses will always be easy to find if you look for them.

However, believing that what you want is possible, is a much more positive and productive way of thinking. Your mind is so powerful, that it can deliver everything you want.

As referenced in Jack Canfield’s book, The Success Principles, doctors in Texas studied the effect of arthroscopic knee surgery. They assigned patients with sore, worn-out knees to one of three surgical procedures: scraping out the knee joint, washing out the joint, or doing nothing.

During the “nothing” operation, doctors anesthetized the patient, made three incisions in the knee as if to insert their surgical instruments, and then pretended to operate. Two years after surgery, patients who underwent the pretend surgery reported the same amount of relief from pain and swelling as those who had received the actual treatments. The brain expected the “surgery” to improve the knee, and it did.

Neuropsychologists say that this is because over the course of our life, our brain learns what to expect next, whether it eventually happens that way or not. Because our brain expects that something will happen a certain way, we often achieve exactly what we anticipate.

This is why it is so important to have positive expectations. When you replace old beliefs with new, positive ones, your brain will recognize this and take over accomplishing that possibility for you. That is the power of your mind. That, is the power of positive thinking.

Coaching focuses on where you are now and where you want to get to. In order to be able to set goals for yourself to get “there”, you have to know where is “there”. Once you get clear on this, then set some goals, write them down and start thinking about your expected outcome. Read your goals at least once a day and pay attention to the power of your mind and the power of positive thinking. Keep your mind focused on your goals, expect them to be achieved and they will!

This Month…

1. Write down 3 – 5 goals for yourself for the next 12 months.
2. Make sure these are S.M.A.R.T. goals (refer to Dec. newsletter).
3. Make a commitment to read these every day for at least a month, and watch what happens!

Empower Yourself – Try This

In order to achieve clarity on what you want your goals to be, you need to quiet your mind. Do this by setting aside some alone time, either in silence or listening to your favorite music. Get comfortable. Have no time limitations. Just sit there and let things come into your mind. Try to keep focused on the task instead of letting it wonder to what to make for dinner, laundry, etc. Just be! You will be amazed at the clarity and the positive energy that can be achieved by doing this. And, just think of the positive energy that can be achieved by doing this daily, weekly, monthly? Come on – just try it!

As always, thank you for taking your precious time to read this. I hope that you found the information valuable and that it will be able to assist you in not only setting, but achieving all your goals.

Warm Blessings,
Deb
