Clean Up Your Mess! |

EMPOWER YOURSELF Clean Up Your Mess! Fall is a favorite season for a lot of people. It brings beautiful colors, chilly “pull up the blanket” weather and fall foods and beverages. In Canada, the change in the season also dictates a change in our wardrobe. It’s time to put away all the wonderful light summer clothes and make room for the big ol’ comfy sweaters and the hats, scarves, mitts, boots, etc. So much stuff. So little room! Are you one of those people who dread this time of year as you have no where to put all the fall and winter gear? Are your closets, drawers, dressers and tables over-flowing? Do you have so many boxes of clothes in storage that you don’t even know what you have anymore? If you do, you are not alone. As a society, we like “stuff”. Our “stuff” keeps us safe and secure. Our “stuff” is important. Like thousands of other people, have you started going through your stuff, only to get discouraged and give up? Since you gave up, how may other things have accumulated? How many other projects have you started and not finished? Be honest! We have trouble finishing a lot of projects in our life, especially when it comes to messes or clutter. But, rather than starting 15 projects that end up incomplete and take up space in the house, you would be better off if you had started just 3 and completed them. Breaking tasks down into small, manageable pieces will move you towards completion and success much quicker than if you try to do everything all at once. Take a look at your clothes closet. Do you have one of those where you can’t put another thing into it – where you struggle to take things out and put things back in? If this is the case, it’s time to be brave and get rid of all the clothes, accessories and shoes that you no longer wear or no longer fits. Sorry to tell you this, but you will never have that 20 year old body again. So celebrate the fact that you have matured instead of hoping for those days again of skinny jeans. If you haven’t worn something in one year and it’s not a special-occasion item such as an evening gown or a tuxedo, get rid of it. Jack Canfield says, “If there is anything new that you want in your life, you’ve got to make room for it. I mean that psychologically as well as physically.” If you want new clothes, you have to make room and get rid of your old ones. If you want a new man in your life, you’ve got to let go of the last one that you stopped dating 3 years ago. When we don’t throw away old clothes and clutter that we no longer need, it is a sign that we are holding on to the past and not making room for new things for our future. This month… How many things do you need to complete or get rid of in order to make room for new, exciting things in your life? What messes do you have to clean up? Below is a list of common ones to help you get started. I encourage you to set your priorities and chip away at one major project every 3 months. 1. Closets overflowing with clothes never worn. 2. Junk drawers full of “stuff”. 3. A disorganized basement and / or storage room. 4. A garage so full of “stuff” that you can’t park your car inside. 5. Papers scattered all over the house waiting to be filed / taken care of / discarded. 6. Desk surface cluttered or disorganized. 7. Pictures waiting to be put into an album. 8. Computer files not backed up or filed. 9. Time not spent with people that you’ve been meaning to. 10. People you need to forgive. Empower Yourself – Try This: Take a photo copy of October’s calendar. Write down and commit to yourself what you will do everyday for just 10 minutes in order to accomplish one of the above, or another major mess that you have to clean up. 10 minutes a day! You can do that! At the end of the month, you will be amazed what you accomplished. Unleash Your Potential To thank you for being a valued subscriber to my newsletter, I have a special offer for you!
