EMPOWER YOURSELF What Colour Are You? “If you really want something, you can figure out how to make it happen.” Cher As summer is winding down all too quickly, our thoughts turn from holidays, beaches, patios and fun, to “buckling down” and catching up on work, cleaning, organizing, putting away summer clothes, shopping for fall and winter wear, buying school supplies and getting back to a “normal” routine. Sound familiar? This can be a very stressful and busy time of year, especially for those with children. So much to do. So many activities to coordinate. So little time. But, somehow, we manage. Every year, we say good-bye to the lazy days of summer and look forward to “turning over a new leaf” in the fall. Maybe all that time you had while lying on the beach or at the cabin or enjoying your own backyard has allowed you time to think about where you are in your life right now and where you would like to be. Perhaps you even have a plan to make some changes. (Okay, maybe not a “plan” but some ideas!) What are you waiting for? Tis the season to “change colors.” What if you could have it all? What if you could have a great and rich life without compromising on the quality of how you want your life to be? It’s your dream. It’s your job to dream and design it the way you want it and leave out what you don’t want. Having it all has little to do with money. It’s more a state of mind than it is the state of your bank account. A dream cannot be put on a “to do” list. It needs to be broken down into small manageable steps and worked on. You must go at your own pace or you will give up. Step by step, week after week, the dream starts becoming clearer and closer, and your desire and momentum builds. When small, bite size pieces towards achieving your dream are clearly identified and worked on daily, or at least weekly, you will accomplish your dream. I believe, at a certain level, most of us know exactly what we want and what our “dream-come-true-life” would look like. We also know the reality of what is stopping us. Define your terms and criteria and take a good look to see if your current reality is moving you away from being who you want to be or just not meeting your criteria. What if pursuing your dream would enable you to create a whole new reality? I’m not talking about not being responsible for day to day responsibilities and providing care to others, but by making different choices which move us closer to what you want. By saying “no” (when you can), you will stop wasting time on things that you don’t want to be doing and start spending time doing what you love. Would that be a shift in your reality? Seize the chance to take a risk! Shift your relationship with reality and forever know how to use it to propel all your dreams. It’s time to make your dreams your reality. As you move closer to your dream, new ideas will emerge. So will new fears. Recognize your feelings and what is real for you. This process is very empowering. The words “why bother?” become our dysfunctional safety net. We seem to think that it protects us from the perceived threat of failure. In truth, to never take that first leap is the biggest failure many of us make. You are not alone in feeling scared as you move toward your dream. We all do, as it is unknown territory. It is un-chartered waters. Be brave! Nothing ventured nothing gained. So, as Mother Nature is making some changes, I encourage you to do the same. Design a way of living that supports who you dream of being and how you dream of living your life in every area. Then, simply, live it! This Month… Start thinking about or journaling the following: 1. Are you ready to turn over a new leaf? If so, what is on the other side? If not, what are you hiding? Why? 2. What does “having it all mean to you? Empower Yourself – Try This: As a very busy time of year approaches, what can you say no to? (Name at least 5 things) When you do, how will this bring you closer to spending more time on the things you love to do? If you would like help in getting clear on your dreams and making them a reality, I would love to assist you. You may contact me through my web site or by phone at 257-4240. I am also happy to answer any questions or to receive feedback. Until next month, warm blessings to all, Deb Fortier |
