EMPOWER YOURSELF Dream Is Not A Four-Letter Word “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” Jim Rohn “Dream.” “Dreamer.” “Dreaming.” What kind of images pop into your head when you hear these words? Do you think of namby-pamby pipe dreams? Do you think of foolishness? Or do these words resonate deep within you and perhaps even make you feel sad, as one day long, long ago, you thought your dreams were possible but now are just a faded memory? Do you wake up every morning with fresh excitement for the wondrous day ahead? Do you go to bed at night feeling happy and calm and with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude? OR Do you constantly feel that there should be more out of life and that something must be missing? Do you wake up feeling tired and dreading the day ahead? Do you fall into bed at night exhausted and miserable and not looking forward to the next day? We seem hungry to live differently, to feel more alive and inspired; to reconnect to our passion, to our hopes, dreams and desires. Eventually, some of us start paying attention to that voice inside of us. Something starts to push us from the inside out to change the way we are living. It seems like you can no longer live the kind of life that you have been living. So, what comes next? What is it for you right now? What is the change that is tugging at your sleeve or whispering in your ear? What is calling, or even yelling, at you? However subtle or obvious, this means it is time for you to declare or reclaim the dreams that are most important to you, as no matter how hard you try, they will never leave you alone until you act on them. It is time to design your life and then to act to make those dreams come true. Standing in your life’s purpose, connected to your passion, your joy, and your gifts, your dreams will be different than if you are simply “fixing” what is wrong in your life. When you find that you are out of alignment with your dreams and your reality and want to close that gap, a good hard look inside yourself is required, as well as a step-by-step plan on how you will achieve your desired outcome. Difficult? Yes, but so worth it! A life coach can assist you in moving through this process with support, encouragement and, of course, accountability. As promised last month, here are the remaining 5 of the: 10 Truths About Achieving Your Dreams (the first 5 can be found in May’s newsletter) 6. Nothing is fun all the time. • Sometimes we have the unreasonable expectation that this thing that we have always wanted to do will be fun and easy all of the time. It won’t. • It will require effort. • There will parts that we like better than others. • Part of the purpose of a dream is to help us grow and become stronger. 7. Failure is inevitable, and not such a bad thing. • Think of it as a right turn instead of a left turn – simply a different result than the one you expected. • So what is the problem? Maybe your ego? • Failure is unavoidable. • It doesn’t mean anything. It’s not a statement about you personally. 8. The only negative conversation is your own. • Can you live up to your own unreasonable expectations? • Rejection will not kill you. It simply opens up different paths and connects you to your own vulnerability. 9. The world is more welcoming than you know. • Contrary to what most of us believe, the world really does want our work and our contribution. • It doesn’t matter if you think your contribution is significant or small, as we are unable to judge our own work. • There is a greater reason we were given this work to do. 10. Your work is a gift. • The dream has been given to you not just to make you happy or fulfill your soul, but to share your gifts with the rest of us. • How generous are you willing to be? • Will you share your gifts? Desire is a powerful force that can be used to make things happen. Never underestimate the power of your own desire and the way to ignite your passion is through your heart. This Month… Start thinking about or journaling the following: 1. Get honest with yourself and start to feel how you would like your life to be. 2. Declare to yourself and others what it is that you want. 3. How willing are you to share these gifts with the world? Empower Yourself – Try This: This will take some time but will be well worth it: What specific steps do you need to take to achieve your dream? What do you need to do today, this week, this month, in the next 6 months, this year? Write this down, and then take an action step every day. Watch what happens… Please feel free to ask any questions or to make comments. I will get back to you ASAP. Until next month, warm blessings to all, Deb Fortier Certified Life & Career Coach Life Is What You Make It |
